Located between protected sand dunes ten minutes from the town of Cascais on the Lisbon coast, The Oitavos is a five-star luxury hotel that could be mistaken for a trendy art gallery or silicon valley hub. Located on Portugal’s west coast, the 168-acre Sintra-Cascais Natural Park is home to a super cool steel and glass structure.
The Oitavos is a family business hotel run by the Champalimud. Miguel Montez Champalimaud is currently the head of the hotel along with his father who both built the contemporary style building located in the Sintra Cascais Natural Park.
What is so distinctive about the Hotel is its Y shape construction made out of Glass and steel. The materials used in order to create the characteristic shape were designed by the Portuguese architect Jose Amaral Anahory who saw the opportunity to create art and so this hotel can be considered an art installation itself. The shape of the hotel is clearly designed in order to allow all the guests staying at the hotel to have incredible ocean views allowing you to also choose whether you face east or west in order to enjoy either the graceful sunrise or the warm sunset in such a location. The hotel is equipped with 142 bold-designed spacious rooms and suites with fully high glass doors and private balconies, that allow you to enjoy the views. In addition to this, the intelligent division of space makes the space ideal for events ranging from a couples retreat to a corporate retreat.
In the Oitavos you can also find the Verbasco restaurant surrounded by the Oitavos duned golf course. The restaurant offers guests the best of the local products from the sea and land, prepared with the mastery of its chefs, creating a wonderful experience.
THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE
The hotel’s natural surroundings are just as impressive as its architecture. There is a sense of calmness not only in the view but also in the body and soul. As well as the generous sizes of the hotel’s rooms and lofts, its common areas also reflect this vastness. The combination of nature and architecture gives you the impression that you are standing within a cohesive work of art.
With such views, one can enjoy some time away from the hotel and enjoy a diverse range of activities. You can explore many trails and places by walking, riding a horse or riding a bicycle. All of this can be experienced while immersed in nature, or while embracing nature yourself.
